Firefox OS (Boot to Gecko, b2g) no Ubuntu 12.04 64-bits

Para que não sabe a Mozilla está desenvolvendo um sistema operacional para celulares/smartphone que deve se chamar Firefox OS (o projeto foi iniciado com o nome Boot to Gecko). [1,2]

O Firefox OS já está em estado bastante avançado, i.e., já é possível testá-lo no desktop e também em alguns smartphones. [3]

Estive tentando testá-lo na minha máquina (rodando o Ubuntu 12.04 64-bits) e tive várias dificuldades pois o código não foi portado para 64-bits. A seguir descrevos os passos a serem seguidos para conseguir testar o Firefox OS:

1. Instalar os seguintes pacotes (recomenda-se utilizar o aptitude):
1. autoconf-2.13
2. git
3. ccache
4. gcc/g++, and you will need g++ multilibs
5. bison
6. flex
7. 32-bit ncurses (libncurses5-dev on Ubuntu/Debian and lib32ncurses5-dev on Ubuntu/Debian x64)
8. 32-bit zlib (ia32-libs and lib32z1-dev on Ubuntu/Debian)
9. foo
10. make
11. curl
12. bzip2
13. lib32stdc++6
2. Baixar a última versão do b2g disponível em http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/.
3. Extrair o conteúdo do arquivo baixado para ~/b2g.
4. Clonar a interface gaia:
   git clone git://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia ~/gaia
5. Compilar a inferface gaia:
   make -C ~/gaia profile
6. Rodar o Firefox OS:
   ~/b2g/b2g -profile ~/gaia/profile

Após seguir os passos acima é provável que você obtenha os seguintes erros:

/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

e se depare com a janela ilustrada abaixo devido ao erro com o Gtk.

Estou procurando descobrir como resolver o problema com o Gtk e assim que o fizer atualizo as informações.

Freedom's Battle - Parte 03/03

A seguir compartilho a terceira e última parte de "Freedom's Battle" de Mohandas K. Gandhi que me chamou a atenção.

I have suggested yet another difficulty--to withdraw our children from the Government schools and to ask collegiate students to withdraw from the College and to empty Government aided schools. How could I do otherwise? I want to gauge the national sentiment. I want to know whether the Mahomodans feel deeply. If they feel deeply they will understand in the twinkling of an eye, that it is not right for them to receive schooling from a Government in which they have lost all faith; and which they do not trust at all. How can I, if I do not want to help this Government, receive any help from that Government. I think that the schools and colleges are factories for making clerks and Government servants. I would not help this great factory for manufacturing clerks and servants if I want to withdraw co-operation from that Government. Look at it from any point of view you like. It is not possible for you to send your children to the schools and still believe in the doctrine of non-co-operation.

Já a algum tempo lí "An Autobiography or The Story of my Experiments with Truth" de Mohandas K. Gandhi e mais recentemente estive lendo "Freedom's Battle" também do senhor Gandhi.
Durante minha leitura de "Freedom's Battle" três passagens me chamaram a atenção. A primeira compartilho a seguir e as demais nos próximos dias.

India cannot cease to be one nation because people belonging to different religions live in it. The introduction of foreigners does not necessarily destroy the nation, they merge in it. A country is one nation only when such a condition obtains in it. That country must have a faculty for assimilation. India has ever been such country. In reality, there are as many religions as there are individuals, but those who are conscious of the spirit of nationality do not interfere with one another's religion. If they do, they are not fit to be considered a nation. If the Hindus believe that India should be peopled only by Hindus, ehty are living in dreamland. The Hindus, the Mahomedans, the Parsees and the Christians who have made India their country are fellow contrymen, and they will have to live in unity if only for their own interest. In no part of the world are one nationality and one religion synonymous terms: nor has it ever been so in India.
